Brabus Unveils The Ultimate Luxury Off-Roader

Leather-lined G-Class pick-up boasts portal axles and a 788-horsepower V8.

Brabus is known for building extreme versions of Beverly Hills’ favorite SUV, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Over the years, the German tuning brand has created some truly outlandish creations, from the world’s quickest SUV to the V12-powered G V12 900, of which only ten were made.

But those zany Germans in Bottrop have managed to push the envelope even further with its latest release. Called the 800 Adventure XLP Superblack, it’s been billed as the “ultimate off-road pick-up”.

Based on the Mercedes-AMG G63, it features a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 788-hp and a mountainous 737 lb-ft of torque.

Custom-designed suspension gives it even more off-road cred than the already accomplished G-Wagon, with portal axles and a lofty ground clearance of 19.2 inches. Even with all that power, Brabus has electronically limited the 800 Adventure XLP Superblack to a conservative 130 mph. This is down to the all-terrain tires and high center of gravity, says Brabus. Still, 0 to 62 mph in just 4.8 seconds is not bad for a tall, leather-lined off-roader.

Lengthier than a G-Wagon, the Superblack boasts a wheelbase extended by 19.7 inches, and a bed composed of a newly-designed steel module with carbon fiber at the rear of the cargo bed.

Carbon fiber features prominently, with the lightweight material found on the hood scoop, front fender flares, vents, and even the exhaust trim. The side-exit pipes also have the ability to glow red.

The overall look is menacing, the off-roader wearing Brabus’ signature black paintwork. Inside, there’s no denying this is one luxurious truck. Leather and carbon fiber cover every surface of the plush cabin, the rear passengers benefiting from the extra space brought on by the increased wheelbase. All five seats are trimmed in the finest black hide and feature seashell stitching in the center.

Special interior elements are livened up by the use of the tuning company’s ‘Heritage’ pattern, which pays tribute to the firm’s founding year (1977), with embossed “77” signets. The roof lining is trimmed in sporty Alcantara, working nicely with the dynamic carbon fiber dash trim. Even the carpets have been replaced by something far plusher – customers of the brand most likely wear the finest footwear and for them, only a leather-trimmed floor will do.

Perhaps the only thing bigger than the 800 Adventure XLP Superblack’s presence and performance is its price tag. At €725,900 ($822,000), it’s more than $600,000 pricier than a regular G63 AMG. Then again, exclusivity comes at a price and if you’ve got the wherewithal and require the ultimate luxury pick-up truck, nothing else will do.
