Mercedes-Benz G400d Launched In Australia As The Base G-Wagen With A Not-So-Base Price

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the second member of the new-gen G-Class, after the AMG G63, Down Under: the G400d.

The G400d uses a 3.0-liter diesel with two-stage turbocharging which develops 243 kW (330 PS / 326 HP) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. The mill is coupled to a nine-speed automatic transmission with low-range function and features three differential locks for the all-wheel drive system. The average fuel economy is rated at 9.5 l/100 km (24.8 mpg US) and the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes 6.4 seconds.

With a recommended retail price of AU$233,900 (equaling to US$180,108), excluding on-road costs and dealer delivery fees, or AU$56,000 (US$43,121) less than the G63, which has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 430 kW (585 PS / 576 HP) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft), the new G400d is equipped with a lot of amenities.

Things such as the two 12.3-inch digital screens, satellite radio, navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, electronically adjustable and heated front seats, three-zone climate control, Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, Burmester premium audio and 360-degree camera system are all standard.

Furthermore, the diesel-powered G-Class is also offered with the MultiBeam LED headlights, sliding glass roof with tilt function and interior blind, Mercedes me Connect app, Driving Assistance Package, Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Pre-Safe and Traffic Sign Assist.

The Stainless Steel Package also comes standard with an exterior protective strip with a black insert, side running boards and spare wheel cover. The metallic paint is complemented by the chrome accents in the front grille, 19-inch eight-spoke alloy wheels and rear privacy windows.
