The 4×4 Squared G-Wagon – all you need to know

The Mercedes Benz company created a special Edition of the W463 Mercedes-Benz G-Class sometime in 2015. This special edition is the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4 Squared G-Wagon which they designed with wheels and tires larger than its original and portable gear axles. It is one of the few cars equipped with mobile gear axles.
This enhancement helps improve its off-road capability.

The G500 has wider tracks and increased ground clearance compared to regular G-class models. The fact that it combines the performance standards of a sports car with the off-road performance specifications of a vehicle similar to a Humvee is another feature that distinguishes it from its competition.
The 4×4 squared G-wagon is the perfect definition of luxury and ruggedness even though it is built like a box or, as some would say, a tank. It is one of the most durable and dependable vehicles to own. There are other of its amazing features you will see as you read on.

Characteristics

The Exterior

This model features a styling that is worthy of being called fierce. Since 2015, the production of the body of this model has been consistent. The company attaches to the long body of the 4×4 squared G-wagon, a long wheelbase, and portal axles. This model comes with 37 inches of tires wrapped around armored Bead lock wheels and the portal axle. The suspension with dual springs helps to rave the special axles and wheels. Shock damper struts are also available, with adjustable damping well positioned on all corners.
The front fascia of this model was copied from the G63 and G65 AMG models. A dual exhaust pipe exists on both flanks ahead of the rear wheels.
Even though the G550 set massive standards, the 4×4 squared G-wagon standards exceed that. Benz added 7.9 inches to the ground clearance; the front track is wider by 9 inches and the rear by 10 inches. It has a 13 inches extra degrees departure angle and an additional wading depth of 15.8 inches.
While it combines the specification of the Humvee and a sports car performance, it beats the Humvee in almost every off-road specification except that of the traversing A-slope. While the Humvee is a 30° bank angle, the 4×4 squared G-wagon is a 28.4°.
This G-wagon is one of the best-armored cars one can buy. Its body has been built with a sufficient amount of armor plating. Details on how much armor was used were not given, but it was indeed told that the passenger compartment was reinforced with steel. It can withstand fire from a rifle. Also, its windows have been replaced with bulletproof materials.

The Interior

The interior of the 4×4 squared G-wagon is comely. The exterior materials speak of luxury, but the interior materials speak of even greater luxury. The interior materials used provide comfort to the driver and passengers.

One may sink into the luxurious leather of its seats because of how comfortable they are. The seats have a leather upholstery material, and the stitching on the leather seats has a contrasting color. The leather that was utilized is black in color, and the contrast stitching that was employed is white. In addition to using high-quality leather, copious amounts of Alcantara and even carbon fiber trims were used in the construction. All these make the chairs top quality, comfortable, and also warm.
The door panels are covered with DINAMICA microfiber, adding to the beauty of the interior.

The Engine

Underneath the hood of the bonnet of the 4×4 squared G-wagon lies a super V8 twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter engine. Its engine produces a horsepower as high as 418hp and a torque of 610 Nm value.
Like every other G-wagon, this one has a seven-speed automatic transmission and three lockable differentials.

The Performance

It is a high-performing model with a ground clearance much greater than the Humvee. Its ground clearance is 410mm, which is 16.1 inches. Even with this ground clearance, it takes at most six seconds to scoot from 0 to 60mph (97km/h).
This 4×4 squared G-wagon can comfortably climb anything that obstructs it. This is thanks to the suspension and its robust wheel system. This is one vehicle that military personnel would happily take as it suits the nature of their work.
It has a great gear system that can be used to move the axle higher up, enabling the car to cross through rough terrains without breaking it. It features an all-wheel drive powertrain. It can switch from the rigid mode, which can tackle any danger, to the comfort mode.

Pricing

It was estimated that only 500 units of the 4×4 squared G-wagon were released. Out of the 500 units released, about 300 were sent to the United States of America. Even though there is rough terrain in the USA, a few believed that more teams should have been sent to Africa, as they have more rough terrains.
Each unit goes for an MRSP, which is around $256 000. Although the number of units is not limited, it is not something to come by easily, given its price. This, however, doesn’t affect the demand rate of this model.

Pros and Cons

Pros
– It is a fast car
– It is better on and off the road than other models of the regular G-class.
– It is a very safe car as it protects one from gun assaults.
– It has a unique look but is comfortable still

Cons
– It is quite expensive
– It is not too suitable for everyday road driving.

Conclusion

We bet that the first thing you would notice about the 4×4 squared G-wagon is that it’s bigger not only in height but it is also almost one foot wider than most G-wagons. It doesn’t just put up a show by being big, but it can increase to 53° (53 degrees). A rumor has been spreading among the walls. It says to leave the dirty 4×4 squared G-wagon. This is more of a hint because this G-wagon has a self-washing machine. All you need is a river nearby.
